Pickleweed library

A renovation of a poorly configured and dated branch library located in a larger community center, the Pickleweed Library is completely re-imagined with elegant wood paneling in the adult reading room, and vibrant color in the children’s room. The space from an oversized and underutilized computer lab has been re-captured for a dedicated children’s room with playful shelving, and comfortable booth seating that can double as a focal point for a storytime reading. The main reading room is inspired by the rich history of wood paneled reading rooms throughout the eras of library architecture, however updated for a contemporary look with rift sawn white oak paneling and carefully articulated detailing. Acoustically lined study booth provide a space for homework, reading, a small business startup meeting, or tutoring. A large wall of north facing glass captures the view across the bay estuary to the hills beyond.
