Northfork library
Located on the steep slopes in the mountains of Madera County, the Northfork Library is gracefully designed to fit into the landscape, as well as the context of the small mountain town. Clad in corrugated cor-ten steel, the exterior of the library is completely non-combustible, an important safety feature given the frequency of forest fires throughout the region. In addition to being fire safe and durable, the metal cladding also provides a rich umber color that relates to local historical buildings. The interior of the library is a grand reading room with exposed heavy timber trusses, and a large east facing window that frames the view of the mountains beyond.
