larkspur library

Our shortlisted competition entry for the Larkspur library was designed to take advantage of the site’s spectacular views towards Mount Tam, prominently gracing the skyline west of the building. A rhythmic grid of structural steel supports the soaring roof of the large civic reading room, and the angle of the ceiling frames the slope of the ridgeline beyond. Weathered wood siding creates a soft exterior appearance that blends into a landscape of native grasses and trees. The program of the library is organized such that the community room can be utilized separate from the rest of the library for evening events. The floor to ceiling glazing is accented with a large sign that is visible from the adjacent street that serves as one of two primary gateways to the City.
